Dog:God
Hello there! We are Gabby & Breez- the first babies our mom and dad had! Gabby, “aka Little Princess,” known for being the boss of the household. Do not let my 9-pound self-fool you. I am ferocious at times and know what I want. Breez, “aka Bubba Boy,” known for my energy and play but also very loving and sensitive to others. I always just want to be with my whole family and sometimes get a bit mis-understood with my excitement and 60 pound self. I am a lap dog.
We are excited to be writing our first blog. Mom and Dad have asked us many questions in order to make the most of our opportunity. Dog:God tells how dogs are truly unique and play a special role in the world.
Have you ever had a bad day at work or been misunderstood? Maybe you messed up and caused heartache or just were going through a traumatic experience. Our rough times started September 28, 2013. We were much younger at the time and Mom and Dad thought they could leave us both out to run free while they were at work. We had way too much fun that day and everything in our house got opened or spread across the house. Needless to say, Mom and Dad were not impressed and we could tell how upset they were.
To say we learned from that moment, would not be fully true. Dad came home with some treats one day since we were doing good and we went on a long hike. Unfortunately, we have selective memory some times and a few weeks later a couch may have been torn up. Let’s not make excuses, but it was a bit of a fluffy couch and it exploded. Again, we could see the pain on Mom and Dad’s faces. We may have found ourselves staying in a crate moving forward and we realized it was for the better. Somehow, through all that we did, we were still loved every day. We would get pup cups at Starbucks, go on hikes and never miss a meal. Mom and Dad would tell us that we would learn one day, but we must always stick together no matter what.
In 2019, Dad headed to India on a mission trip and told us to hold down the fort while he was gone and look after Mom. We knew this was going to be a big job. We had big news in our house a few weeks before he left, we were getting a two-legged brother or sister.
We excitedly celebrated with mom and dad when they received the positive pregnancy tests. We were actually the first to know! How exciting is that?! We were told to keep this a secret; man was that hard for us to do because we love kids and wanted one of our own! But we did it! We cuddled mom as she was feeling nauseous by curling up in a ball cuddling her belly where our baby sibling was. We even learned quickly to not jump on mom’s belly. We kept mom company and protected her while dad was away – it was a fun job we had! We got a lot of cuddles! Once Dad returned, our senses kicked in and noticed something was not right with Mom. We continued to protect Mom during this time and did not leave her side in bed and even when she was in the bathroom. When Mom and Dad left for the hospital, we were upset we could not go with them! We really wish places like that fully understood the importance of dogs, we mean “fur babies”!
The next few weeks, mom stayed home a lot and we cuddled her through her times of sadness and anger. We learned that we were great at catching tears and making Mom and Dad laugh when they needed it most. We took our job as being their built-in best friends very seriously and never missed a time to cuddle and make them feel better. Also, there were times when they talked to us and all we could do was listen intensely with a sigh and head nod every once in a while.
Unfortunately, we would go through other times of sadness over the coming years, but we take our job serious to always be there for Mom and Dad. No matter what was going on in their life, they provided for us – food, water, treats, ice cream dates, camping trips, hiking and ugh-cannot forget baths! They told us in return we provided for them something more valuable. We were there for them through the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. We never stopped being by their side.
In September 2023, we finally got the huge promotion to be a big brother and sister to a two-legged sister. We are her personal protector. Any time she cries or makes a noise, we have to make sure she is okay. We love napping near her, but believe it or not, a pacifier may go missing from time to time. We try to say it is just missing, but Mom and Dad know we chewed it when the pieces are spread across the floor. No matter what we always stick together in the end. We are a family that knows how to love one another to the fullest.
This leads us to a little-known fact or maybe not so little. Did you know that the word dog spelled backwards is God?! We know, we know-most people have read that! But, let us tell you- we hold that title of “dog” close to our hearts because God sent us here on earth to be His right hand man for our mom and dad during their most difficult times. Life is not full of tail wagging, dog bones and long hikes. Some days are rough much like when we get a bit excited and get into things.
Fortunately, no matter what, we know Mom and Dad will be there for us. This is also true for God; He is always there for you in the good and the bad. We tend to not like what He may tell us in difficult times but we have to open our hearts and mind to Him. When we do, we can get through anything! Just like we were there for our family, God is always there for you, as long as you allow Him in and talk with Him through daily prayer and conversation.
XOXO
