Life & Love Around the Table
I heard once that the greatest missionary tool is the fork!! That sitting around a table breaking bread with others opens up conversation that might not happen anywhere else!
The bible talks about food, drink, fellowship and life around the table often. Jesus himself seemed to know the power of a table! I believe if it is good enough for Jesus it is good enough for us.
I named my catering business Family Table Catering based on Acts 2:46 “and they shared their meals with great joy and generosity”. The book of acts continues to say that daily people were added to the kingdom after breaking bread together.
Cooking has always been a passion of mine. I love creating meals with bold flavors and watching people enjoy eating it. That is a gift that God has given me. My wife and I try to have someone over each week for a meal. We often look for those who need Jesus and maybe who have not experienced the hope that comes with a relationship with the Lord. I love seeing people gathered around our long table laughing, loving each other and enjoying a great meal.
Sitting around our table has provided connections that I believe could not have been made anywhere else. There is something about slowly enjoying a meal together that causes people to open up about life.
I am here to encourage you that if you ever wonder what your purpose in life is, then maybe sitting around a table with someone will help you find that. I promise that people do not care what your home looks like, or how fancy the meal is. People care that you or I thought enough about them to invite them over. You can order a pizza, get take-out or make a sandwich. It is the fellowship that matters. It is taking the time to invite someone over and just share a meal together.
When Jesus walked the earth, he met empty people and they always left full. They left spiritually full and often they left him healed. I believe we can be like Jesus on earth in one small way by taking time to invite people to share a meal together. I believe they will leave our tables not only physically full, but with full hearts as well.
I hope this encourages you to step out of your comfort zone and share a meal with someone. Take time out of your busy schedule to share in life with someone who might need a kind word. I believe laughter can happen, tears can happen, healing can happen, and purpose can be found sitting around the table together.
