Dog:God - Thankful

Hello there! We are back writing again! In case you missed our first blog, go check out Dog:God.

Once again, it took some convincing with Mom and Dad, but we are back! They asked us many questions in order to make the most of our opportunity. “Thankful” explains how important thankfulness is and plays an important part of your life.

We are going to cover why thankfulness is so important and how it plays a vital role in our lives through a lived experience.

On a warm winter day in 2013, the four of us went on our daily hike around the apartment complex in Louisville. Of course, we were both much younger then and had boundless amount of energy to burn off, so if we were good during our hike, Mom and Dad gave us some freedom to run without being leashed up. It was a lot of fun during our freedom runs. We were able to go every which way and sniff where we wanted to, hike our leg, mark our territory- you know all the fun stuff us canines do. We never strayed far away from Mom and Dad and each other, but one of us has a hunting gene in our genetics and let our nose get the best of us. Our parents knew that Gabby was following behind them and Breez was running to and from, in front of them. In an instant, Mom, Dad and Breez all lost sight of Gabby. We hollered for her, sniffed for her and was searching relentlessly. To no avail, the three of us were not able to find Gabby. She had vanished.

Mom and Dad were panicked beyond belief! As the search continued, we saw a slimmer of hope – it was Gabby’s sweater! We just knew it was her, but once we got closer, it was just her sweater that was hung up on a stick. The scary part outside of her still being MIA was right beside her sweater there was a random men’s black tennis shoe. What were we all to think at this moment other than Gabby was taken from us? On a hillside, we traced our steps back from where we were before but still had no luck finding Gabby. Things began to look grim and more serious. Breez began to show interest in going back down the hill, but the parents did not let him because they did not want to lose both of us! Therefore, Breez was placed back on his leash and had to go where Mom and Dad took him. Breez was still being insistent on going down the hill, therefore, Mom took him back to the apartment because he was still a puppy and learning his listening skills.

A few moments later as Dad yelled, he noticed a white speck down the hill. It was not moving though. He went under a thorn bush and continued to get closer ever so slowly, but the white spec was not moving. After getting through the bush and down the hill some, Dad realized it was Gabby! She was waiting at the bottom of the hill just off the trail at a spot that she had been countless times.

After the initial shock, nerves dissipating and a regular heart rate returned, it was then realized, Breez was not pulling towards a random spot, but rather telling us the direction his sister was! That was the moment we realized their bond was inseparable and still is today.

You may be wondering why we relived so vividly a scary moment of time. You see, we are thankful for Mom and Dad not giving up on searching and having such a strong bond as a family. This bond grows stronger each and every day.

Sure, we may potty inside sometimes, bark to much at rabbits and other animals or maybe not listen to our full potential at times, but do you really want it any other way? We have to do this sometimes to gain a bit of attention or let other animals know that this is our territory. At the end of the day we are full of love, cuddles and love a good pup cup from Starbucks or piece of meat off of the grill.

Being thankful for the life we have is all that we can be. When Mom and Dad are at work, some event called a Board Meeting, and we have never been invited to church yet, but we wait, worry and wonder when they will be home. When that garage door goes up, we cannot wait for them to walk inside. When we are all together, we are most happy. We spend time together, watch plenty of football, eat too good and just love on one another.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving this month, we cannot be more thankful for Mom and Dad. They love us no matter how crazy we may be at times. They give so much time to us no matter what is going on or how their day has been. (We always know how their day has gone because they tell us. We just pay close attention and always nod and shake our head when needed!) Most importantly, they always tell us they love us each morning and at night before bed.

This year, remember all of the reasons for being thankful. As Reba McEntire puts it, “I have a lot to be thankful for. I am happy, healthy and loved.” Happy, healthy and loved is exactly what we are! We hope everyone has a happy and healthy Thanksgiving! One last thing, do not forget to pick up a few surprises for your fur babies on Black Friday while you are shopping!

XOXO
