What is Weighing You Down?

How many times have you gained and lost the same 20 pounds?

My name is Vernon Davis and my wife is Niki. We have been married for over 23 years and have three kids, Steel 19, Roman 17, and Sasha 10. We also have a silver labrador name Pablo. We both have full time jobs, planted a church in September of 2022 and are very active. To say we are busy is an understatement but we like to call it living. I would like to share a few thoughts on our health journey and how making a few changes to our daily habits has impacted our entire life.

I started my health journey 5 years ago when I was 293 pounds, and Niki started hers in August of 2020 (starting weight can not be disclosed for legal reasons). I initially started meal prepping and due to health reasons started eliminating meat. I was praying for Niki to start her journey. My brother introduced us to a nutrition program and initially we declined. However, Niki kept watching his transformation and our niece's. Six weeks after he told us about it, she told me she wanted to try it. I was elated. What I had been praying for was coming true. I was going to keep doing what I was doing, but I decided to join her so we could be on this journey together. We went on to lose 100 pounds together.

What started out as a way to lose some pounds and learn healthier food habits together has grown into a deeper understanding of intentional habits all together. Upon starting the program as a client, we also felt a need to coach the program. When we started coaching, we took off with a great deal of clients. We are naturally supportive and encouraging people, but this would require a new level of commitment if we wanted to help people discover and awaken to the greatest version of themselves. Our program offers four components. We offer fuelings (food), mindset transformation, virtual community and a health coach as part of the complete package. While the fuelings and the virtual environment are key components, the awakening happens in the mindset shift. If your mind is not transformed, you will more than likely go back to the old habits. It's what you know. It's easy even though it might not be the better choice.

Our experience while leading others is also growing us individually and as a couple. We are motivated to read self development books and listen to powerful podcasts that frame a mentality that is supported by our healthy transformation books, the Habits of Health and the Lifebook. These books are written and developed by Dr. Wayne Anderson. He is the founder and co partner of our health program. Dr. Wayne's vision is to place focus on optimal health one healthy habit at a time focusing on healthy body, healthy mind and healthy finances.

Coaching together created the elevation we needed for our relationship to grow. It has been the difference in allowing us to truly understand each others strengths as well as our weaknesses. We have attended several conventions, relationship building engagements, and partnering building a new church. Our communication has evolved as a result, and it's made us better friends and parents to our children. One simple decision has changed the trajectory of how we move. If this nutrition program, planting a church or even writing this blog had initiated prior to our overall transformation, we would not have been able to work together. You are probably wondering, "Why? You've been together so long?" Well that's another blog.

I am not saying the journey is easy but it does require intentional decisions in our thoughts, how we speak, how we react, our interactions, and the people we allow in our circle. God provides us one life and he wants us to live it in the best way with peace and purpose. What is not serving you? What habit do you need to break? Are you living your life to the fullest potential? Are you going through the motions? Are you settling? Are you afraid to take the risk? Are you afraid of closing the door? Are you afraid of walking away? Are you afraid to take the first step?

Your "20 pounds" may not be related to actual weight but maybe it's something you have been carrying with you that needs to be let go or a habit that is not serving you. I have learned over the past few years that it is fine to start over or start again (no matter your age). If something isn't serving you, change it. "You only need to get one percent better every day. Stop doing one thing every day that's hurting you and not leading you to the future you want and start doing one thing that is." Dr. Wayne Andersen.

Be Blessed!
